1. String

In the realm of JavaScript, a string is a data type that represents textual data. It is a series of characters encapsulated within single quotes ('), double quotes ("), or backticks (`).

2. Use Strings and Numbers Together

3. Three Ways to Create Strings

Single Quotes (')

Double Quotes (")

Template Strings ( ` )

4. Escape Characters in JavaScript

In JavaScript, escape characters are used to include special characters in strings. They are preceded by a backslash \ and are often used to represent characters that would otherwise be difficult to include directly in a string.

Here are some common escape characters in JavaScript:

  1. \n - Newline

    var text = "first line.\n second line.";.
  2. \r - Carriage Return

    var text = "Hello\rWorld"; // Output: Worldlo
  3. \t - Tab

    var text = "Name:\tJohn"; // Output: Name: John
  4. ' - Single Quote

    var text = 'It\'s a sunny day.'; // Output: It's a sunny day.
  5. " - Double Quote

    var text = "She said, \"Hello!\""; // Output: She said, "Hello!"
  6. \ - Backslash

    var path = "C:\\Documents\\File.txt"; // Output: C:\Documents\File.txt
  7. \uXXXX - Unicode Character

    var heart = '\u2665'; // Represents a heart symbol // Output: ♥

These escape characters are helpful when dealing with strings that contain special characters or when you need to format text in a specific way.

5. Interpolation, Multi-line Strings
